Overview
For hikers with basic mountain walking experience.
The Tiger Leaping Gorge and Stone Town trek is ranked among China’s top ten hiking routes. Formed where the Jinsha River is forced between Haba Snow Mountain and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the gorge narrows dramatically, creating a thundering drop and surging waters. On clear days, hikers are rewarded with views of snow-capped peaks rising over 3,000 metres above the cliffs. Hidden deep within the gorge lies Baoshan Stone City, a remarkable settlement perched on a mushroom-shaped rock. Home to more than a hundred Naxi families, the village is protected by sheer cliffs on three sides and the Jinsha River on the fourth. Its strategic setting and rich cultural heritage offer a fascinating glimpse into the history and resilience of the Naxi people.
